Solar panels are unsafe
Last week, a San Diego solar panels on the building led to a fire, the fire exposed the California building codes in many cities there is a potential fire deficiencies. Prior to California to encourage solar power system installed on the roof, tens of thousands of homeowners responded to this call.
Experts said that in most cities, the government does not force homeowners to install solar panel switches, which switches off in case of emergency current from solar panels. The event of fire, as long as a sunny day, a dangerous current will keep flowing along the wire, have no way of firefighters.
Last Wednesday, when, AmyPavis experience in their own homes caused by a solar panel electrical fire, she will never forget that feeling.
While many families spent fire extinguishers, San Diego fire rescue department has done a great effort, AmyPavis home solar panels on the roof is still burning several hours, until the last cut off electrical solar panels together with wire, the fire was finally extinguished.
Has investigated electrical fires for 25 years, said Snyder, like a fire caused by the solar panels, he had seen 50 cases, 5 of which suffered heavy losses since.
Snyder said the fire exposed the construction of a solar panel next obvious design flaws, particularly for broad use of residential solar battery panel users, is a very serious fire hazards.
In order to reduce carbon emissions and respond to rising electricity prices, the Government implemented the use of solar power generation systems, while in California Island, more and more heads of households installing solar panels. In July 2008 to June 2009, San Diego County issued a total of 432 permits to install solar panels, and in the next 9 months has increased to 760 permits.
Almost all of these devices include two switches, both switches are close to or directly installed in the power inverter.
A switch to minimize the AC into the room, and the other switch is protective, to prevent DC current leakage from the solar panel. Pavis home fires, solar panel DC switch power inverter in an old box, which increased the difficulty for the fire fighting. But Snyder that, even with the two switches are not enough to stop the fire.
He believes that there should be when the roof cut off DC power, the switch should be as close as possible solar panels.
"When the home circuit breaker is broken, this switch should be able to cut off the rectification power system." He said.
San Diego County, California building codes in accordance with custom, in the specification, not a mandatory installation of such a switch. Snyder said that in the region, only the Temecula are mandatory.
Temecula, California Forestry and Fire Department battalion chief, said the Director of CharlieDeHart, such high specification standards should be adopted, the firemen fighting the fire when solar panels can be quickly and effectively cut off the current, rapidly extinguish fire.
Some industry experts said that this is indeed a problem.
Executive Director of the California Solar Energy Industries Association SueKateley said DC line does fire threat exists.
As long as the sun, solar panels on full power, even on a cloudy day or night, it still maintains the power.
SueKateley said the fire caused by solar panels give us the real lesson is that homeowners should do regular checks on the solar power system to ensure that no problems and fire hazards. But she acknowledged that solar panels are to be developed to improve the safety factor.

hi. the experiences seem quite awful bu thats not the case. its essential that all safety measures are adopted. besides solar power is safest of all other power options. But as they say mishaps can happen anytime so be cautious.
